Colors of September
The color of today White and gray Only a little blue. Waves tumble and play Frolic in West wind where White caps splash the skin Of turbulent Lake Michigan. White swans have gone Black cormorants wing south in flocks— On such a day A tern tilts on airstreams From north and east. Sandpipers skitter along the pier Picking up tiny bits That’s the way it is On this September day.

I think that's why I enjoy the quiet lakes inland in Wisconsin better. Living on a huge lakeshore reminiscent of the sea can have its grey days. I find them depressing like the incessant calls of gulls and the ever present wind. Inland, there is much color, even on dreary days.
