childhood

 Ross Street, Columbia Mo.

Roller skate up and down

Take the bus down town

Soda pop hop scotch

Roll the stone

Jump stop.

Puppy dogs, wobbly legs

Polliwogs, frogs’ eggs

Boys and girls

Holding balloons—

Childhood days

Gone too soon.

Clover garlands

By the mile

In the meadow

Climb over the stile

Suck the nectar

 From red clover

All too soon

Those days were over.

Yep, they are over and no amount of wishing they would return will bring them back. I spent many years writing poems of my "younger days" secretly in my thoughts hoping I could return to them, but of course I couldn't.
