Ahh, one of life's greatest experiences...

A frail heartbeat
Inside a minuscule shell;
Fully, completely contained
Within the host.

Fetus.
Womb.
The host grows to accommodate
The new life

And its heart expands…

A mother sees an image
On a screen, black and white;
Eyes, toes developing
Limbs growing by leaps and bounds--

And her anticipation grows…
This new life within her
Has spawned a protective instinct.
She’s changed because it’s survival

Has become linked to her own.

They each need the other to go on.

Then that moment anticipated for months,
So meticulously prepared for,
Talked about for what seems forever,

Finally comes--

Babe emerges.
He with great fear, trepidation;
Wails, sniffles, a healthy appetite
And a strong need

To be cuddled.

Babe primps as witnesses gaze
Uncontrollably adorable
Innocently lovable
And totally unaware of limitation

To the spectators delight...

They reminded of the splendid grandeur of
Life replicated as a clean slate;
Renewing dreams of possibilities
Long thought gone.
