Eternal Hunger

An eternal hunger dwells inside these walls of me
It lives and yearns down deep in my soul
Craving satisfaction never completely fulfilled
A lingering hungry ache, an ever-reaching goal.

Food nor fare will fill this ravenousness appetite
Nor will the pleasure of wonderful friends I know
Because my life is bound by the need to write
Nourished by creativity that out of my pen will flow.

Sweet aspiration boils from the core of me
Visions of life materializing from a bottomless well;
Characters materializing in the emptiness of space
Stories with heart, feeling, and pleasures I have to tell.

My strange demons are benign but complicated lads
Created listlessly in a busy mind deep in-depth
Prompting me with whimsical wiles and cunning
Needing, seeking, impassioned emotional wealth.

My demons probe, prompt and disturb my sleep
Nudging me intrusively from my comfortable bed
Causing a search of my churning thoughts
A craving for nourishment to keep the hunger fed.

In reply, my helpful Muse seizes the mania of my need
Mental telepathy generated through my pen to write
Creating magic of glorious images in simple words
Beauty through visions of a scribe’s perceptive light.

I knew what you meant by the second line because I feel the same way. I've never been able to put it so eloquently, though. I especially enjoyed the imagery in this poem and the mention of how friends cannot fill the void. So true. Exceptional write, Jeanette. I hope you don't mind but I'm adding this to my library! Love and Hugs.

The frustration is not to be able to "sate" that need. Meaningfully expressed, Jeanette. Love and best wishes,

Your demons seem to be very useful... they're not always comfortable, not easy to please, but they stir and agitate so that you find the questions first and, from the questions, answers can be sought. An interesting description of your writing process.

Something I am not used to seeing from you, but something which I was delighted to read. The demons. We all, of course have them. They affect us. They guide us. They destroy us. Your poem, Eternal Hunger" addresses this, but gives us a way out with the help of, in your case, your Muse, but in iny case, another Word might work . . . Excellant work here . . .
