I awoke with this question on my mind several weeks ago...since then the words have lingered in my thoughts and my heart as does the question...What will I leave behind?

That is a thought I have had often. Sometimes my next thought is "who cares"
This really touched me. As I blogged yesterday, we lost a family member yesterday, and I am encouraging my father to not cancel all his spring plans but to make new ones and more of them. Good thoughts for all of us, Joyce. Eileen
This is a thought provoking poem! Everyone's would be different, I'm sure. You make me think about the possessions I cherish that perhaps no one will when I'm gone. That saying comes to mind about one man's treasure being another's trash. What I like best about this piece is how you capture the important things left, like memories and love. Nicely done!

I actually pondered a lot on this one, Joyce. While it is so true that all of the above might be left behind by anyone who's done with this journey called life, I'd rather leave something that isn't tangible, this special feeling in my heart that I am willing to impart, to open my hand in friendship honestly and unreservedly, and the hope that I maybe remembered not by success or riches but by my significance to my friends and loved ones. This is a meaningful piece. And yes, thought provoking.
Beautiful vignette of those questions unanswered when we ponder our own fingerprints left behind. That is the image I am most impressed by. Superbly done.
Lovely, these words written from the heart of a Kentucky mountain girl. I can only hope I shall leave thy children, friends, etc., with a kind picture of me in their heart, for in eternity, I will wait patiently for each of them. Beautiful words my dear...
Thought provoking and awesome. I hope I leave some dreams incomplete because I hope I keep dreaming all my life, right up to the end. I hope I leave a few dishes unwashed because I hope I don't waste what time I have left worrying over every little thing. What will my friends think? I don't know but I'm not too worried about it because my true friends will miss me and those other "friends" well, they don't matter much now, why would I worry about when I am gone? This self serving review was rationalized by the reviewer to a wonderful poem, written with warmth and thouhtfulness as always from one of the golden hearted people in the world. Liz
Joyce, these words are full of wisdom & truths...we all should give this some real thoughts. What will we leave behind...there's so many I could list that fits into everyone of your categories? Truly full of inspiration & gives me something to think about. Have a great upcoming New Year and may all you ever desired fill you to the brim. God Bless.

These past few weeks,I've been "trying" to encourage "CHANGE" and new growth for anyone around me too, I asked Paul "when you son is over, will you NOT smoke outside with him, and he is really trying, going outside in the back or downstairs.I would rather his son smoke alone, #1. he smokes more than Paul (Paul only 5-6 a day or so) and his son a few more... and being a good role-model I keep reminding him! a few other changes too, that are important to me, it's the New Year coming into View! Love this poem!Makes one think HARD! which we should, why be the same!
Dear joyce, very nicely put. Yes everyone should care to leave only the best memories. These is what those who remain will be able to build upon. Happy New Year Emile
Thank you Joyce for sharing such beautiful words, for this is what I needed to read to make me understand certain things in life as I go to my brother-in-laws funeral tomorrow. Thank you dear friend.
very inspiring work Joyce, gives one to reflect on their inner self and how it expels our outer self to others. and our faith is inside out and that should be the way we walk.
Joyce, what an inspiration you are. I read your blog almost every day, at least every time I go online. I love to hear about your life in the hills of Kentucky, your love of the Lord, your ups and downs. But, you always get out of it through people you know. I have been enjoying your writing very much.
Thank you for writing your blog, and poems of course.

I love the love-- don't love the dishes. Some of life's tasks I'd rather leave behind... But funny thing, I can't cook at all if my dishes aren't done... --Charlie

Questions we all ask ourselves at one time or other. My soul I will take with me but my heart I will give a small piece to each I leave behind.
