Myanmar (acrostic)

Merciless cyclone swept communities to death,

Young children stranded, draw upon last breath,

And merciless too, you refuse aid to arrive,

Not caring whether your own people survive,

Meagre smiles crack on state-run T.V,

As falsified elections consume military energy,

Reacting humanely takes a grain of empathy.

I see well, Anna, why you chose Myanmar for the title because it will never be Burma again until it is free of the horrors of that dictatorship. I was lucky to spend a week there once and the Burmese people (who would ever think of calling them Myanmarese?) were so serene and elegant and giving in their poverty and oppression - what a lesson in dignity that was, a week of real education.
