It Was A Dark & Stormy Night
May 29, 2025
By Rose Marie Rideout
Late at night, as I sit all alone,
I could hear the wild winds blow,
All by myself in the comfort of my home.
The lights were dimly lit,
As I picked up my old guitar,
And I searched for my favorite pick.
I could hear as the house moan,
With the storm brewing outside,
Causing each loose board to groan.
I decided that something had to be done,
As I continued to work on my writing,
With no other safe place to run.
It rained, it hailed, it blew so fierce,
It was such a dark, stormy night,
Through my body, the winds did pierce.
The lights would come and sometimes go,
As I tried to consentrate on my work,
Watching the flicker from the fireplace glow.
The time has come I must rest for the night,
Relaxing from natures strong powers,
Leaving me in darkness, without the lights.
It was a dark & stormy night,
All alone and somewhat afraid,
The flickering lights gave me a fright.
Incidentally, before reading this I wrote the poem that I'm posting today yesterday. It has a similar theme. Comfort that we take so for granted in the 21st century.
