Oh To Be Young & Innocent

May 6, 2025

By Rose Marie Rideout

I remember back when I was so young,

I was as innocent as they come.

I knew nothing about the real life,

Because of the family I come from.

My Mother was a true Catholic,

From the time she was a little child.

Raised in the convent with Nuns,

They knew she would never be wild.

She raised us kids the way she knew,

Always keeping us safe & full of love.

Her Mom passed at the age of 29,

Mom cried but knew she was up above.

She looked at us as young as we were,

So innocent & unaware of real life.

Praying we would grow up to be happy,

Finding the perfect husband or wife.

Now I am married for all those years,

Raised five children with care & love.

Wondering if I were young once again,

Would I get my Moms wish for love from above.

From your poem it seems that everything turned out very well, even with your innocence.

For me, I very quickly left the innocent stage even though many thought that I still was. I knew far more than most kids my age what was really going on. One of the reasons why I grew up happy and content with my life… avoiding all the wrong paths that presented themselves as I moved along.
