Poem Artwork

Spying

on a hand that planted my scars in the night sky,

I wonder where it hides, the mischievous author,

the troublemaker, the living mirror that reveals

past consternation; I count them, I count them,

I imagine the hand that left them to sparkle

and become a constellation.

Crying in intergalactic winds, their voice

reminds me of agonizing beauty, skinned,

bleeding, raining in mermaid despair, as I

drink the onomatopoeia of wounded scarlet flesh

and wonder where it hides, the wit, the fever

the crazy wisdom that showed me all…

All that I cannot see, suddenly lights up

in the temple of my night that knows no boundary;

dancing sparkles of evidence float in the void

as I drink its fluidity, embrace it

and still wonder where the trickster hides:

the bare hand that placed the stars

to show me the way across the scarlit sky.

As a young boy, I used to study the starlit sky like this, wondering about its maker; As a man, I know Him personally, but in so many ways, our Creator Jesus Christ is still just as mysterious to me as He was when I first met Him. This is an absolutely exquisite poem, Axilea. And you manage to set into words the wonder we all feel! I loved reading Skylights! Thank you.

This is so beautiful, Xillie. Every line full of wonder and enlightenment. It is amazing how mercy touches us all-- how whole a person can feel in midst of awful circumstances when we find/have a purpose (I'm also thinking of "Man's Search for Meaning" by Victor Frankl). ...scars in the skies... I like it a lot. Something to view with wonder, and to somehow make sense of it all in constellations of words. And a thankful, humble ending. It's perfect.

A stunner of a poem. --Charlie

This is absolutely awesome! I will look up into the night sky and hear these words; they resonate in my spirit!

the pursuit of our origin, the origin of all that is - there in the night sky, "Skylights", we see clues of the incomprehensible genius of our genesis - for moments of extreme brevity when we examine the clues of our own thought processes we feel the rush of finite enlightenment there, in the "Skylights" - Axilea I like the emotion, the search, the feel of this work - it is focaccia, dried locust and wild honey to my spirit and imagination - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael

Beautiful and visual Axilea, how the minds question and wonder and then "as I drink its fluidity, embrace it"

To embrace it and understand is then achieved

Your words - like a fruit that blossoms in the Spring
And ripens in the summer
So juicy is the taste it flows down my cheek
and when I'm finished eating - I want more.

for me, Axilea, both sense of wonderment
and question - empirical and self-questioning;
a way of searching for and evaluating origins
and meanings, the questions out there but ultimately
within ourselves

I particularly appreciated the original identity you used: scarlit sky. The surreal nature of the reality and the imagined sky and stars is effectively rendered, lifting this subject above the pedestrian renderings of Hallmark and American. Well done.
