Poem Artwork

It rains

In the country of rats

Well-adapted to the defeated skies

And stone dyes are dripping down

Where lungs are drowned in dirty water.

No black and white,

Just daily struggle hidden in gray rotting thoughts and bones

Medieval fears in their eyes and empty words

Fill the space with the void of angst:

There are those who come here

Their hopes momentarily boxed

To fill their pockets

And run away, ensconced

And those who err in endless drab

Where lights are dim and chances slim.

While everywhere

It rains

A wet spiderweb that froze your will and muscle

Over a city that is like a sentence

From some nameless court that’s playing dice

And on the stage of fate

They’re glad to see

The victims of such cruel games

Exposed, pathologised and blamed

To keep those rats from stopping (for a while)

To contemplate emancipation and revolt.

But as a leitmotiv, as some insistent soundtrack

That leaves no time

For a deeper, lifesaving breath…

It rains

A good description of a city like London during medieval times. I love the way that each phrase leads into another one in a string of phrases gray and desperate where only the rats find it like home.

I see America (as she is presently) in your thoughts here. There are so many spirits vying for dominance now in this country. One man says: watching Trump drive the snowflakes insane is priceless; like putting a halogen light on a basement of scurrying rats. Another man says: ordinary hypocrites pretend to be doves; political hypocrites pretend to be Eagles. But don't be disconcerted with their aquiline appearance. They are not Eagles, but rats or dogs. At least a good rain washes the natural things clean for a while and encourages new growth. Good imagery and challenging. Enjoyed. HNY. r

This is excellent. I wish I was more knowledgeable about the situation, but the words fall on the ear like the rain you speak about. When finished reading, the reader knows they have been blessed with a write of depth and substance.

Ratville is not a pleasant place in which to spend
a lot of time, but it, too, has its issues that need
to be exposed to the light of day. Nobody does it better.
