O God on High
Though I have lied, cheated and lived
With arrogance and secrecy
Until my soul is filled
With emptiness and void
I prayed
That you still might deem me
Worthy of salvation
And so it came to be this day
That you refreshed my soul
And told me of what yet is to come
Sharing that caring and kindness and Love
Will open any door
I confess that with your lessons of life
I learned that to succeed it is necessary
To give the best of myself
And that to reach the greatest heights
I need only let myself soar like an eagle.
With your guidance
I gained strength in knowing that
Faith and Love allow us to see clearly
What we cannot see with eyes alone
And that when I live with God in my heart
My future is to live in the Heart of God
Now with enlightened soul
I kiss today goodbye knowing that
Those whom I leave behind will remember

Hello Ronald,
This is a short note to thank you for posting a review of my poem Footprints of Love.
You ask why would anyone live a life of lies, cheating, arrogance and secrecy. And I have to admit that only through spending 38 years in the courtroom of the criminal justice system have I run into anyone whom I believed lived such a life. But without having direct knowledge of all the details of their lives, I'm sure each of those characters had some part of their life that wasn't totally corrupt and disreputable.
Now, I've been fortunate to have received many awards citing virtue and honesty and even a public citation by the Mayor of the City of San Diego for outstanding community leadership, yet I admit that in the course of my life from childhood to my present age of 82, there have been instances when I have lied, cheated, acted with arrogance and kept secrets from those entitled to know (such as my wife of 63 years). I'm not going to sit here and point the finger at anyone, but I have to declare that I've never met and known anyone in my entire lifetime who hasn't lied, cheated, acted with arrogance and kept secrets from those who have an interest in knowing.
Perhaps you live among angels. But keep in mind that even Satan was one of God's angels.

Beautifully written, but I am tongue-tied to express myself when the ending is so final. Yet, it must be for us all some day, and you've garnered inspiration from that fact with such tender expressios in your lovely poem, Footprints of Love". (I hope you'll still ber around for a long time to come Richard. I was just reading about a woman who is 115 years old and several others who have passed the l00 mark.)

It looks to me like it requires very serious character flaws for someone to be suddenly struck by faith and love.
The hypocrisy is overwhelming.
