This surrealist influenced poem deliberately mixes the discourses of prophesy/astrology (specifically planets) with a fruit discourse. What if we'd worshipped fruit instead of planets in ancient times ... how would our newspaper Fruitologers conduct themselves?

A conjunction of Blackberries and Lemons—

in the wild wood lost. Endure the bitter days of

                                                            winter.

The purifying qualities of Grapefruit

imply a new beginning. Sugar the juice and all

                                                            will be well.

The Strawberries are nippled at equinox—

sleep the long day and fill the night with daffodils

and roses.

The ascendant Orange implicates sunshine—

enjoy the warmth of a glorious summer, all

                                                            deserving.

Bright leaves fall on Pears in the mud,

accept the worms of mortality—the mandatory

                                                            nettle.

On the horizon at dusk, Eve’s holy Apple,

five points oh star of wisdom. Listen

                                                            in silence.

Luminous Fruit in the house of the evening solstice—

cherish the bright berries, but choose wine of

summer grapes.

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
