Anyone who has had a pet will understand this poem

Especially for Murphy

Sometimes I dream you are near
Reach out my hand to touch your fur
That you will suddenly reappear
To once again I hear your purr

I wish I could turn back the clock
With you in a warm spot on the floor
Or see you dart through the house
Sadly you are not here any more

Murphy had become sick and weak
I really knew what must be done
When pain kept him from his sleep
It was a battle that couldn't be won

It was a sad day I recognized
On this one day more than the rest
For not to let grief stay my hand
That love would have to stand the test

After so many happy years
Murphy's illness comes as a blow
When he is not enjoying life
It was time to let him let go

I know in time all will agree
My precious Murphy has been brave
It is a kindness that's given in love
That free from pain he can be saved

Murphy was smart - nobodies fool
And seemed say let me be me
It's was not in his heart to let me rule
Because he thought independently

Purred as a sign when all is well
His bright eyes could see so much
Calming company at my side
My little grey cat so soft to touch

Near or far wherever you are
I believe that life still goes on
Safely locked within my heart
Love never lets go when were gone
