My Soul Won't Rest
Death is imminent
Sooner or later
my time will come
to lay in the dirt
My ticket called
to finally rest at the
feet of my maker
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
I'll sit on the cracked steps of
Stalin era barracks in
Khabarovsk
Smoking supernatural joints with
the displaced souls of
Perestroika, telling their story
while perched upon the dacha's
roof
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
I'll stand on the mighty walls of the
United States Disciplinary Barracks
Fort Leavenworth Kansas
Staring at what used to be, writing about
how souls of suicidal guards and
hung prisoners now play cards together
knowing their differences so small
in eternal existence
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
I'll hang on the street corner
Anjung-Ri
where two handicapped
prostitutes stand braving
the elements for bread
I want to be there to document when
black angels come for their pimp
who braves the elements from a
distance and not as they
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
I want to sit on the tin roof
Hill View Trailer Park
contemplating what time
was then and what time
is now
Why so many are gone and why
my soul so restless in the afterlife
stays
Childhood stories burn my hands in fury
sets my paper ablaze
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
I'll walk the beaches of Depot Bay
Springtime, air so cool
the rememberance of a past
romance and the beginning of
my offspring
Wondering what went right and what went
wrong while enjoying the moment
without regret
And write I the times of bliss
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
I'll find my father
in the cabin of our past
We'll sit quietly in the wilderness
smoking Cubans and sipping
gentleman's whiskey
Eyes searching for answers
Patiently wading through intentions
and remorse
When the time is right, we work a
few things out
Writing about what could have been
and what will be
I will not cross
I must write
My soul won't rest
thanks for sharing HB
Peace
