24 Hours

I spent today alone-
     Without motivation
      or companionship

Nothing to wake up for-
      I slept late you see
      and woke only to stare
      at the ceiling in disbelief

No way could it be suspended
by the four corners of my
      room-
Today is the day it caves
      in on me

I skipped coffee today-
I could feel the thirst in
      my veins quenched only
      with water as the dead
      skin on my fingertips
      drank

I stepped out today-
      With sun blinded eyes
      only to walk the dog,
      only because I had no
      choice - I prefer my
      house in order

My mind went numb today-
      I forgot the security
      code for my building,
      stood in a trance waiting
      for someone to enter

I had visitors today-
      Memories of loved ones
      passed on, my own inadequacies
and a stack of bills on the
      table

I bought groceries today-
      Sudden hunger felt I
      haven't eaten for days
Come to think of it I
      am looking slimmer

I went to work today-
      Seems I haven't worked
      for weeks although I must
      have judging from the uniform

I've been sober now 24 hours

Brilliant, echoes some of my feelings of trudging through a lonely life working to keep a roof over my head and food in the fridge. So good for someone to put into words the feelings I sometimes have.

What else can i say but that your writing is just fabulous as you spill out what you feel and want to say. It was a pleasure to read fine work as yours and thanks for sharing this with us all here on the den.

Wake, see the ceiling and wonder how it hangs from four corners withous falling down in your face.
Philosophy, pure and unadultered philosophy forced by coffee abstinence.
Humor, fatalisme and an empty glass today.
Tomorrow? che serà...serà?
Great
Georg

In the Whirlwind by Tichaona Chinyelu

In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
