For Martin Espada

Coming of age-When Health

is not a given and Occupational

specialties wrench formulas of

life expectancy. All things

considered, my verses linger

in infancy. The Irony of

Anxiety over Poetry Perplexes

Me with each stroke of the

pen. Espada pains himself

to warn:

            Never pretend

            to be a unicorn

by sticking a plunger on your head

I myself, patience seldom the

Constitution-Sometimes willing

to don sutures, scalp the

mythical creature and transform.

In far over my head, granted

the opportunity in Self permit

would trek to the Islands of Dark

Hue and plagiarize Senor Pablo

until my beast bled out.

Giving thanks for Fantasy

Giving thanks for Forgiveness

Most of all- Giving thanks for

the advice of Old Poets.

Drinking wine with my friend Alejandro de la Vega, he wisely said about your words that "if you are an unicorn you don't need a plunger"
And about forgiveness, I wish to had, come and take a glass of wine with us, get out of the Island of Dark and pay Señor Pablo his dues.

A well-thought out synapses, HB! Mentoring Old Poets keeps us in the good graces of fishing in literary waters...Patience is a metaphorical line tied with poetry flies, baited to catch a readership, we drop our lines over, close our eyes and wait for that first bite hit with a gentle tug, reel it in, ready with net, and put this Patience in a bushel basket. Catch your limit, HB! Always a pleasure to read you...

Warmly,

Sage
