Swimming Within the Abyss

It seems that as of late, the abyss calls out to me and is always there within my words these days. I know something is there, just can't see it ... yet.

Upon rising with the Sun, one profound though
slips through the sleepy fog of morn. This mind
is delusional, nothing more. Too much reading
between the lines and misunderstanding the rhymes
of others. I’ve lead myself astray some time ago,
a self inflicted time bomb waiting now to implode.

I struggle deep within, between the joy and rapture
of finding love again as it battles against the darkness
that no longer sleeps within my heart. I retreat from
all that I’ve read, for I know that I could not inspire
such grandness in anyone. My tears fall silently like
tiny dew drops upon the rise of morning light.

Let me sink into some distant fantasy of happiness,
where life has meaning and Love shines so bright.
There are no arms to lift up my spirit from this murky
Hell I now float in. Alone I stand in front of the eternal
abyss, staring into the deepness and hoping that perhaps
something just might look back at me.

Nothing …

No sound, no wind, just nothing there. If only I could
sink into nothingness!

I was brainless for thinking I could inspire such emotions
in a kindred soul. Yet, your face haunts me in wakefulness
and sleep. I shed no visible tears for what I could embrace,
for I know deep within that all this is but mere illusion. All
this grew from a tiny seed of hope and restlessness into the
monster that now consumes me from within. My words read,
but not READ. I have no voice with which to shout … so I
weep instead. If only you could see the hope that once grew
inside me, now only darkness creeps over this aching heart.

Your image haunts me in my dreams. Those contemplative
eyes, seemingly lost deep in thought, drift now away from me.
I was foolish, yes, very foolish. My words, unheard and unseen
by the eyes …

These tears that flow, they fill the abyss in which I now drown.

Yet, Hope is the buoy upon which I float, still. Your kindred spirit
still speaks to me in this Hell. I have nothing left but hope … Hope
that perhaps one day your arms might just reach into this abyss
and pull my soul free.

I think that perhaps that abyss is made of the thought that life is endless. It becomes a dark abyss, rather than a sun-dappled garden pool when there doesn't seem to be enough to fill it.
