Of Wives - a Fool - and the One

"So, do you still think you love her?"
My mind fogs from the question
Who are you - wife of another and mother to more than a child
- to ask such a question in that tone,
"I don't know," I lie without skipping a beat
I do not think - I know I still love her
Always will-till time ends-my heart-hers alone
(she forgot to return when she left me)

"Wrong answer."
Eyes wide in amazement - how dare you?
You in your idignation speaking of my feelings.
I can not help how she still affects me
A broken heart is all I have left -
Although I loathe it-I cherish it also
I understand why you tell me what you hear.
Trying to win a prize that is long gone

"Just forget her, you deserve better!"
I do? Perhaps you - slinking from your spouse,
Even if the betrothed woman was (at one time) a preference.
'A reformed slut' as she had called me so long ago,
A night of candor about my past-now I am labled
Between whispering sheets I allowed her entrance.
She too had been another's when I set my design
And after a short time I wanted her as my wife

Silent as I am you guess my thoughts,
Reflection - not the desire for speaking your words to me
On soft padding feet you approach to change my mind.
A few steps of my own - backing to the wall,
Looking at me with twisted jealousy you mistake for love.
Hands against my chest before snaking around my neck
Your lips brush mine, "I can make you get over her."
Under the press of yours my mouth twists to a smirk - Never.

Profound in its portrayal of raw feeling. I like this very much.
