A poem about love and love lost.

Step by step I walk this windy road,
Stopping every so often to rest my weary bones.
It’s been a long road that I’ve traveled,
And I’m broken down and crabby
Don’t know how much further I can go.

Seems like all I need,
Is someone that I can depend on,
But my faith gets weaker the further I go alone.
Just when I find a friend,
They let me down again,
And I don’t know why I should go on.

There sticks and there’s stones,
They may not break any bones,
But there’s no comfort when you don’t have a home.
Oh God, I need some one to help me along!
I just can’t finish this journey alone.

After resting a while, I’m ready to try,
I take my first tentative steps with a sigh.
I continue the journey,
But I still keep on hurting,
Don’t know how much more I can take.
How many more nightmares to keep me awake?

As the time passes by,
The harder I try to do it all on my own.
Just when I think I’m finding my way,
Some new hero comes riding in,
With sweet talk and some wine.
Promising things will be fine.

He wants to be there until the end.
He takes my hand,
Let the journey begin,
Oh thank God, for sending someone to help me along!
I just didn’t want to finish this journey alone!

Just when I think things are going great ,
He pushes me down to fall,
When the dust settles he’s gone.
And I’m left alone,
Sitting here wondering how to go on.

How do I stand up and fight again?
As I sit and cry alone, I feel so forgotten.
As slowly I stand, and take my first steps,
So tired already from the effort I’ve put in.

I take some deep breaths,
As I stare down the path,
Knowing some how that I must go on.
As tears fall from my eyes,
Step by step I begin to stride,

I lift my eyes to the sky above.
Quietly I pray,
Oh dear God, Please send me someone to help me along!
I just don’t want to finish this journey alone!
