Blood Can Be Difficult To Remove
(written after a visit to Elmina Slave Castle)

Dungeons built in 1482
scented with mold and mildew
lacking light
and
ventilation
stained with
menstruation
defecation
urination
females crowded like
cows in an East L.A. slaughterhouse
sobbing on stone floors
sobbing in waste
Mother birth of earth
African woman cursed
raped occasionally
while he licks his teeth
grunts
and spits out
gratification
and does a disservice to civilization
Vultures and rodents
feed on carcasses that are
lucky to be deceased
Blood seeps from the canons
and the caves
and the cracks
and chains
and the hands
and the feet cause
blood can be difficult
to remove.

I visited Ghana, West Africa last October. It was a memorable and overwhelming experience. Ethiopia next year !
