She was raising her children all alone
Trying to keep them in a stable home
Without the benefit of a baby’s dad
Adding to the drama she’d already had
She was trying hard to let them know that drugs weren’t cool
As she encouraged them to continue on in school
She was oftentimes at her wit’s end
But it was upon herself she had come to depend
She was working two jobs to make ends meet
But was often afraid to walk down her neighborhood street
She did what she needed to feed her mob
But was dreaming of the day she could quit one job
Her strength of character seemed to radiate
As she rose again and again from the falls she’d take
Her life was like the clowns in a circus scene
As she juggled life, motherhood and the job between
From early in the morning until late at night
The urban warrior queen continued her life’s fight
And she worked to keep her family together
And to keep them united so they could endure whatever
Her sword was the powerful words she’d easily spit
Her shield was made from life experiences and her mother wit
Most of the time her manner was mild,
But when pushed to the limit, her counterattack could be wild
The urban warrior queen had grown up in the school of hard knocks
Amid the violence, teen pregnancy, the crime and the rocks
But her inner strength is what often helps her to get by
As she stands, today, surviving, with her head held high.

Be always safe,
Karen
Well done mate.
