My Tribute To Geri

Three poems on this page for my friend.
From our friendship that started 25 years ago to her too early end.

Geri

Geri,
You are such a special friend.
You have stood by my through thick and thin.
When I need your help, you are there for me.
And that is how true friends are supposed to be.
I always try to be there for you too.
I have had some wonderful times with you.
We have been through a lot together.
Calm skies as well as stormy weather.
You are like a mother to me,
and you say I am like a mother to you.
Without your friendship,
I don’t know what I would do.
It is hard to find friends who
understands each others needs.
Our friendship has grown and
and it still succeeds.
We have learned a lot from each other,
and our trust has shown us,
how to be honest to one another.
I think that is why we seem like each others mother.
We are more like family than we are friends,
and I know our friendship will never end.

She doesn't think she is a poet, but I think her words are great.


Happy Happy Birthday Judith
with the lovely flashing eyes.
Your sunny disposition and your lovely smile,
brightens everything around you
and makes everyone smile.
Friends like you are made in Heaven
and I'm so glad you are a friend of mine.
Have a wonderful year ahead of you,
you wonderful friend of mine.

She gave me an Indian name many years ago. I have a lot of Native American heritage. My name is Princess Shining Water because my eyes remind her of water flowing over silvery rocks.

This poem is a tribute to my friend Geri who passed away today.
As you can see by reading both of our poems that we had a great friendship.

Geri-Min,

My Mother like friend.
You left this Earth today
To go to that beautiful place far away.
Though that’s how it seems to be,
you’ll never be far you see.
Your loving spirit will visit me.
I will find myself dialing the phone,
and then remember you are no longer home.
I will check my Email and miss your notes,
that always let me know I was in your thoughts.
It doesn’t seem real that you are no longer here.
But I know your pain is gone
so your spirit is filled with cheer.
I know it was your time to go.
To find happiness in your soul.
You are with God, family, and friends,
because your great spirit never ends.
I am sure you have found your place
In love and light and a wonderful space.
I know you are happy and feeling free
and are exactly where you are supposed to be.
So smile down on me -my mother like- friend
I miss you already,
but I will see you someday again.
Until that time comes,
I will remember you and our good times
we spent and know that our friendship
was heaven sent.
