A Broken Heart

Daily the white eyes come and the old ways no longer belong to the Cherokee, they have vanished with the land.

He has gone again, leaving me to fend alone.
He hunts for food, I must keep the campfire burning at home.
I wistfully search the horizon, hoping to see him gallop up,
He is life's substance, the joy that fills my cup.
It has been many moons since he departed,
My body pines for him, I am brokenhearted.
I gaze at the stars and whisper his name,
I wonder if he star gazes and does the same.
The thought of Lone Wolf's tall, sleek body, fills me with delight,
How it brings me much pleasure throughout the night.
His eyes are dark and brooding, they drink me in,
He finds favor in my eyes, he is exhaulted above mortal men.
The ache of exsisting without him, is grave, too much to bear,
Life means nothing to me, when he is not there.
Lone Wolf is the sun in my sky,
He is the reason I live, the why.
The old ways of the Cherokee are fading fast,
Soon we will just be a memory, a thing of the past.
The white eyes daily come to take our land,
Why we are made to share, I cannot understand.
The Cherokee was made to roam free,
The Great Spirit made us Mother Earth's caretaker, it was meant to be.
The bear and wolf are our brothers,
The Land is the life giver, it is our Mother.
A Cherokee's heart pines for the land,
Something the white eyes will never understand.
They come bringing guns and disease,
Their wish is to bring a Proud Nation to it's knees.
They are blinded by selfishness and greed,
They will always take more then they need.
The Cherokee's heart will pine each day,
As our lives and home just slips away.

I don't know how I missed this one, Patty but it's so beautiful and heart touching.

A heart full of love is always sharing and caring but it breaks so easily when it sees those whose heart is ignorant to the laws of nature all around us......beautifully written words to remember SC

This is a powerful and beautiful poem, SC.
It means a lot to me living with nature
and off the land. I cannot conform to
these rich man games, even if I had money
it would go to those in need. I don't need
a lot. You have written a wonderful piece!!

S.C.,

A beautiful heart pumps the flow of life's blood. Sad, gentle and poignant. Bless You, Paul.

Nobody could as nobody can, bend the spirit given by Manitu, nor, those talking with two tongues could break the Nation heart.

Through the Amazon by S. Oliver Eldridge

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
