In the stones –
Of a thousand years
Yet to come –
Primitive, their sculpture
Just as these –
Still a stymied mosaic
Just as we –
Hallowed stone stood
Well-weathered, calm –
Sphinx-like the mass
Here and now –
Graveside tumbleweed ceased
