Today, the eighth year anniversary of your death,
I stand by your grave as I do so many times.
I talk to you and cry sometimes.
How I miss you and wish you were here.
So much would’ve been different.
So much would have been made clear.
I dreamt of you again last night.
I read your letter again. You were right.
Lawton was using me in the most insidious way.
I kept my promise to not fall into his trap and kept away.
He left me pregnant. No one to turned too. I was alone.
You, you were the one who rescued me and took me in.
My baby’s birth I saw in your eyes.
Do you know I’m here?
A man like you opened your life and heart to us.
You made me your Mrs. and my baby your trust.
She never had a finer father, no one better than you.
You gave her a platinum life with so many opportunities too.
I won’t hear the negative about you; none of it’s true
You were a man with a golden heart and we love you.
Can you hear me?
Everything about you is so unforgettable.
Your smile, your eyes, your strong hands.
The shoulders you gave me to cry on.
Your hugs, your embrace, your kisses so soft.
How I miss you holding me tight, passionate nights.
Surprise gifts, a slow dance in the kitchen.
How lucky I was to have you love me?
You’d chuckle when I’d tell a flat joke,
Your laughter filled the house with joy,
I miss hearing you call out, hey babe…
I miss you holding me in the rain…
I miss you singing that old Sinatra song…
I even miss you smoking that terrible cigar.
I can’t get used to being without you.
You were an impressive man, so very special.
I was honored to have known you and share a life.
You always knew the right thing to say.
You had a gift…a golden heart regardless of what they say.
I knew you better than they did. I knew you well.
A Navy Seal in your younger days, then a Teamster VIP.
You’re a man who is irreplaceable.
You were dangerous, ruthless, a man like no other.
Your connections made me shudder.
You lit up my world and gave me so much happiness.
You were a man bigger than life itself.
And here I am recalling my life with you.
Humming the ‘Hold me’ song. Our song.
You let me go…I know it wasn’t your choice.
Sleep peacefully my love.
