Millie and Lou
said their I Do's
on his hill in the middle of town.
Now everyone knew
they were an unlikely two
to marry and settle down.
In the space of one week
she crooned 'dear can we speak
I need you to buzz like a bee.'
Buzz like a bee?
My sweet that's not me.
In the course of one year
Millie whined 'dear
you must learn to bite like a flea.'
Bite like a flea?
Geeez-marie!
'Well then chirp like a bird.'
Chirp like a bird?
By dang that's absurd!
I'M AN ANT!
a mighty black ant
I can't and I shan't
chirp like a bird
buzz like a bee or bite like a flea.
But now I see
what everyone knew
that an ant and a gnat
were an unlikely two
and I'd be better off being
a 'me' than a 'we'.
So this story as I see
might say to you and me...
don't try to make a mighty oak
into a bending willow tree.
