a decision to make
a chance to take
my dad off some medicine
but what then?
Aricept
for Alzeihimers
old timers
to get or forget
or to just let
him go
let him grow
into grey
that's what they say
either or not
was never a sure bet
but that is a lot
to let
him drift away
but can you see
he be who he be
a ship lost at sea
but that choice
is left up to me
a voice
heard by only what i see
gotta say
"do it my way..."
and then watch him pass his way
back into yesterday
never knowin' today
he's 85
and still alive
for that there's
a high five
but who wonders where
who wanders there
in his mind
who can find
where his thought's go
i don't know
but, i see he's lost his glow
his life's flow
his light is dim
but as for "THEM"
i can't say
i can only pray
day to day
and he lived
and he gived
the life that he could
the life that he should
the life that he would
if life was his to play
once again
he'd begin again
and do it again
his same old way
instead of hearin'
it pass away
instead of fearin'
ain't no more life to play
the med's you see
are left up to me
the doctor says
give it a trys
the nurses
they question whys
"his heart will give out"
before he remembers what it's about
you see
it's chf's
congestive heart failure
he's dyin' of
and that's for sure
$5 dollars a day
a pack of cigarettes
to pay
and yets
what can i say
when there ain't no way
to cure
old age
it don't take a sage
to read the next page
i could ramble
on & on & on...
until he's gone
done sang his song
but is it wrong
for me
to see
a memory
the history
die before me?
and to take the risk
with a $$$ closed fist
for me to take
a decision to make?
he's ready to go.
he know
it's time to die
but why
for GOD's sake
is it
bit by bit
a decision to make
my risk to take
(i seldom punctuate
nor capitalize
because i realize
there ain't no point
to what i say or pray
after the fact
is always too late
it's just an act
to perfect what i say
i let the words lay
where they be written
'nuthin hidden
in punctuation
too much pain
nutin' to gain
except...
dad, i love you
best i can do
is take
the decision i make
and live with it
bit by bit
we'll go on...
dad so long
remember your song
remember mine
singers we were
singers we are's
2 far distant stars
out in the sky
wandering'... why
into goodye's
we gave it our try's
you & me
we be
we each take
a decision to make)
Not an easy decision I realize, but if he stays on the drug and stays with you a few more years, a few more months, days or hours, maybe the powers that be will come up with a cure, maybe they won't...but you can say you have had him as long you could...do what your heart first says...and I hope you and he find Peace, Ed & rufuz
My sympathy is yours. Lost my father years ago to that vicious illness. Get a good clergyman to help you make that decision, and once its made, you must LIVE with it. I cry for you, friend.

I feel for you so deeply. I lost my own father to congestive heart failure. May God bless you, my friend.
Many blessings and hugggggs,
