MAXIMUM SECURITY
© 2006 by April Sims
I was only ten
When you started
Putting make-up
And perfume on me
That is also when
You started giving me
To men for free
No price for you
But a huge price for me
Repeatedly you gave me away for your
Addictions
Cravings
and
Infatuations
You would lay me on the bed
And then let them in the room
Then shut the door
And let them do whatever they wanted to do
Mom you sold me out
And laid me on the altar for your glass god
I don’t know which was worst
The physical pain they inflicted
Or the mental pain of being
Subjected
Volunteered
and
Commandeered
To participate in grown up games
So you could
Smoke
Sniff
and
Gorge
Your veins
I am writing this to let you know
That mama is no longer in pain
And tomorrow I am being shipped off
To MAXIMUM SECURITY
Where I may never see the light of day again
Be safe,
Karen
Obviously, your poem struck a cord in me.
