Sometimes you walk along the beach
focused on the fine line where sand sinks into sea
and fail to notice the strong tide creeping in.
And sometimes you are tending to the tasks
of the everyday and are completely immersed by a flood
of vague remembrance brought on by nothing in particular
and changing everything all at once as if there had
never been any separation at all. As if all the time
and space between your heart and another had
dissolved like the sand at water's edge.
And then another wave crashes against you --
ten digits on a screen perhaps or an odd coincidence
when you don't believe in coincidence. And then it is
no longer an abstract concept breaking apart,
but it is the very essence of what makes you 'you'
merging into a deeper truth, mysterious and beyond
that which can be acknowledged or understood
with words or concepts.
Then all you can do is walk along the beach
and let the ancient seas sing to your soul and
recycle your tears. All you can do is give yourself
completely to the force of life and love and trust
that someday that goodness will be enough
to supersede the fear in another's heart.
All you can do is dare to hope.
All you can do is body surf and try to breathe.
All you can do is be grateful for the ocean's pull
and rise to the rolling wave. All you can do is fall
and get back up again every time
and reach forward
in the dark.
Your poetry is powerful... it pulls me in with its strong undertow and delivers me back on the sand a different person...resolute to walk along the sand, despite the darkness and the tide coming in.
All you can do is give yourself
completely to the force of life and love and trust
that someday that goodness will be enough
to supercede the fear in another's heart.
All you can do is dare to hope.
I find this so very real and true. Thank you for sharing this meaningful metaphorical write. Love and best wishes,
