What if it wasn't a dead-end road, after all,
and there was more of us to be discovered,
infinite possibility unfolding like the white lotus?
What if we were deserving of it all?
What if any dream could come true if we chose to believe,
then lay down all preconceptions and let it be born,
coming into the holy presence of the miracle,
bearing witness to the fullness of what it is?
What if we were a gift to the world,
an offering of love and thanksgiving?
What if we took a stand for the truth of this love
and trusted that its grace would spill over and out onto
all the people we have told ourselves it would hurt?
What if none of it was a mistake and all of it
was a treasure and we the gold refined by fire?
What if there never was any sin, save our refusal
to remember and rest in the promise of life?
What if it's not too late and even now
there could be a beginning?
What if it doesn't matter what you did
or what I said or who we were then or who it is
we will come to be?
What if there was only this moment
and the whole world opening to the sun?
What if tonight we met beneath the slivered silver moon
and knew we were two wholes, complete
whether either of us chose to stay or go?
What if we rested in that knowing
and rose again to new life?
