I stumbled upon this photo and the beauty of my mother's heart puts me at awe. I surely haven't been the easiest daughter to raise, but I know mom forgives me; just like only mothers do.

Poem Artwork

A dusty shoe box filled with pictures,
letters from your pen back home
I remember fun and lectures
as I let my memories roam.

Growing-up was never easy,
or so I thought when I was young
today it makes my stomach queasy,
to see how fast my time has sprung.

Never did I recognize
the sacrifices you took on
as I know my countless vices
fifteen thousand miles forgone.

Still I grow and still I falter
not seem to learn from my mistakes
I need to kneel before the alter
to ask forgiveness for I’ve caused ache.

Today we share a talk and laughter
life’s gentle breeze keeps us at calm
so I can love you as your daughter,
you’ll always be my loving mom.

Becca as a father and grandfather who has raised three daughters I can tell you in a heart beat that your Mom would not only forgive you but would give her all to do it all over again with you. That being said do this up on some fancey paper, wrap it in a gift certificate to do one of the favorite things you both share and a promise to do it the next time you go home...

Rebecca,

What a beautiful tribute to your Mom. I'm sure we've all made mistakes we'd love to atone for. You're lucky you had the chance to tell your Mom. So often we take time for granted, and before we can say anything, our Moms or Dads are gone. Wonderful write.
