There's another
world I visit
in my sleep
where the day's
constraints
unbutton and unzip
to crowd the
dirty clothes
in the hamper.
My pillow,
a giant sponge,
sops up all
stress and worry,
spilling from
an ear or my
cluttered mind.
There, life
is fair
and good guys
finish first,
and my number
always wins
the prize.
I fly on dragons,
a super hero,
or take magic
carpet rides,
reading minds
and casting spells,
solving problems,
even mine.
In my other
world I'm safe,
and time
stands still.
Wrinkles fade,
varicose veins
are beauty marks
and mirrors are kind.
They tell me
I'm the fairest
in the land
and they never
show me silver
in my hair.
I have genies
in my lamps who
grant every wish.
Oh, that world
is a haven,
and I live
in fairy tales,
like Peter Pan
in Neverland.
And as I
sleep and dream
I watch as
angels weave
magic into love
and happy endings.
it seems i've just bumped by chance into your wonderful collection...have only started reading....i'm mezmerized by your apparrent talent and verstility....pmedlin
Oh yes, me too. My favorite dream is that I can fly. I love this>>>"My fluffy pillow, a giant sponge, to sop up any leftover worries, spilling out my ears from my mind." Brava! x
Another excellent write, CJ! This speaks to my own thoughts, and reminds me of one of my own... "Dreaming in that way I do, I find a kind of peace. Reality might be the glue, but I prefer the crease..." ;-)
Oh dreams........
Your write is very descriptive and universal. I wrote a poem very similar to this about a yr ago, in rhyme, but let it in my journal...you have prompted me to ressurect it. This is almost like a diary entry, almost like speaking to your inner child.......
Enjoyed this very much, its a keeper

Written from the true mind of someone who still holds onto those dreams...Usually, somehow, thinking like you write, leaves us as adults. You always seem to capture that wonder in your pen, now I know why..."My Other World"...

P.S. Sorry for the delay on reviews, I seem to get on and off so quickly, and think I've hit everyone, but didn't????

With that mind of yours, dreaming could be scary! But I believe that your entire poem is quite normal... and in many ways, comforting. Your words are chosen like gifts to yourself... exquisite, indeed. I enjoyed the trip. Let's go again, sometime, soon!

Normally my dream world is good to me. I've traveled all over the world and met more people than I could in mortal form. Lately it's the same dreams...I'm standing high up somewhere and am looking at a flat shiny sea all around and people asking for help. It bothers me.
I think tonight I'll try to travel to Holland and see the tulips for a change.
Love,
Susan
I enjoyed reading about this other world of yours, CJ. My other world is full of amazing adventures. I'm always looking forward to sleeptime and dreamtime. :)
Much love

Vivid dream, great exploitation of visions and arguements. It had all my attention from start to finish. Victor
Was all set to ask what you dream of at night whilst asleep, until I got to the catch of the final line. What a blow! This rocks me, CJ, because the build up would suggest that this is spoken from a heart that has sought over a long period of time to believe only the best. Can relate, being ever the optimist. That's why the turn of the final line is so powerful. At least, this is the way that I have read it... perhaps I'm dreaming! Absorbing poem, thank you. K xx
This is a very captivating read, C.J. It's the second poem I've read this evening with dream as the theme. Poets do indeed share a vernacular swimming pool - must be a few in at the dream today.
Controlling the screenplay of our dreams would be a fine thing. I love the way you speak of the pillow soaking up left over worries of the day - I'll lay hold on that line, if I can be bold enough to do so. I also like the idea that our frailties as we age become beauty spots, and that the mirror on the wall's assurance becomes routine.
I want to be where you are! My dreams are of storms...........all night last night, I was tossing and turning, running from tornadoes...........this is beautiful. And to have the winning lottery numbers...........*Smiles* THAT would be nice. This is a magical, beautiful world you write. :) Thank you for taking me there, if only for a moment. I will save this, to return to again and again!

Come on with genies and dragons and happy endings! Such magic you weave with words! And your guardian angel knows you have your readers nicely under your spell. That is something you CAN believe! Nice work, CJ. The pen is certainly a magic wand.
The eloquent first verse sets up this poem as another magnificent trip through your imagination and artful ability to take us all away on those 'magic carpet rides' to where you want us to go. Each time I think you have written a 'favorite', you do it again. This poem is another great example of how you not only enter our hearts as a child, but how you give our adult 'fairytales, dragons and dreams'.

CJ, I never thought of a fluffy pillow to be a giant sponge to sop any left over worries...to night, when I go to bed I will tell mine to start for once to sop away so I can see my lottery number hit the jackpot.
A beautiful poem from an undying romantic.

It is a blessing we all share to be able to dream and also to often see dreams realized. Night dreams are special for they allow us to do the undoable, see the unseeable, feel the unfeelable and yes love the unloveable. Great write.
Oh CJ - delightful, delightful!! with a down-to-earth ending, sadly. But not all dreams are happy endings, in my experience....
I especially love,
*In sleep, life’s constraints
are unbuttoned and unzipped,*
is my haven
where I still believe
in fairy tales
So true, CJ. I love dreams. Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes,
