(this is about the successes and failures of science but I've brought in art, music, literature as well)

Light has stared at the face; the smile was white between the lips
Were there streams of bullets rolling in the waves?
You thought you could touch the rays but you never could
It ran faster than you did, illumined the world so you could see
Yet, you have seen only the skin of the earth, not the layers within
And what you saw were appearances like the Freudian iceberg
Wrapped in the folds of a reality defined by mere words

You chose to hold on to words, a set of formal sounds
The real is what you say; the real is what you count
Symbols and the universal destiny…was something wrong?
The apple has fallen on the ground, and Newton has made it fall
You felt you knew the laws, the theories, the principles…
Time was passing or was it? You were standing somewhere or were you?
The skin has begun to wrinkle when you discovered Dorian Gray

The picture in front of you has changed its face and you
You are still a child, learning how to speak in a language of gods
For what danced in front of you were the heads and the tails

You toss the coin, you play the dice, and you change your world
The world is your kingdom; it is what you want it to be
You can have it all but not all at once
When you want darkness, you won’t see the sun

You chose to speak of limitations, uncertainties, weaknesses
Yet with the Michaelangelo spirit, you have stretched your hand
Your fingers are not as strong as they used to be
But you try and will try more for you know you have Einstein’s eyes
And Beethoven’s cosmic fifth to push your way through
The realization however grows, as much for the mind is that which travels
A little far too much beyond the boundaries maybe, where desire takes

Maybe you have chosen to go; maybe you were taken there
The land where the gods are doubtful about their own existence
You want to paint like what you see and even what you don’t see
The gates are opened now and the universe is a never-ending story
A thousand years and more, Darwin has stretched your brain bones too far
What remains is your thirst and with the thirst you move ahead
Not to see where the journey ends, but to know where it becomes - your destiny.

You're a Category Five Poet with this "classic" Science addressed in a nutshell; although I doubt you should lump art & music in with the same crowd of penetrating thoughts; they surely are! Welcome to the Den, (I too just signed on Aug2007) This one I will have to print out to read again and again! What Realizations: "you can have it all but not all at once!" So True: and speaking of "... the child... (learning) to speak the language of the gods(!)Whoa! great line. You wouldn't perchance be familiar with the "Rg Vedas" would you? A little Hindu blood in you perhaps? (sorry to stray) Great Stuff.

Your thoughts are a projection of views in which ultimately we find the results of time passed through billions upon billions of years, whether past or future there is still a multitude of learning before we actually find wisdom....

very nice work.....

Indepth version of the never-ending sppeal to do things better . . . To paint that oil-on-canvas more realistic . . . To shakeup the sexual revolution (is it still going on?) . . . Causing that old apple to somehow fall up the tree . . . Equating the downside of mathematical equasions to the betterment of the poor and despondent and paint the ceiling of the world a deep and comforting shade of earth colors . . . Nothing splashy, it might clash with the transvestite's colorful language . . . (Okay, so I got a bit carried away . . . . It's MY comment after all . . . LOL)

Virolution by Frank Ryan

Our human genome is full of viruses similar to HIV-1. These have played an important role in human evolution and still play an important role in human embryology and day-to-day chemistry. Just how important are they to our evolution past and future?
