A Stone's Throw

A stone’s throw at best…

that is the distance that

physically separates us.

me here…

and

you there…

but

i cannot reach you,

for you hold the key

that unlocks the door.

in the past,

i often wondered who

or what caused you

to hate this much…

why being right

was so critically important.

now,

I disregard these thoughts

for I no longer care…

except when you’re

a stone’s throw away.

Perfectly expressed. Do feelings ever go away, I think not. It' so easy to repress feelings in times of absence are awakened, though perhaps altered, when confronted by presence.

Dawn, This is an interesting write. "what caused you to hate this much…" I don't understand Hate/Hating/Hatred, it has always looked so painful to me and I prefer to believe that Love is all there is. A favorite movie of mine, Micky Rourke delivers the line "Hate? I don't hate anybody, but there ARE many that I prefer not to be around". Carin'

Finding the right distance,
choosing between what needs to be said
and silence that is sometimes the best solution,
learning to live with one's emotions
without being controlled by them...
These are some of the ideas that come to my mind
when I read this poetic piece.

Oh yes ... I can totally relate to this Dawn. Many have come and gone like this over the years in my own life. A very thin line separates these feelings, and although being detached can maintain a form of peace, when these unresolved things get in close proximity to us again, a floodgate can open and inundate us with all those emotions that remain unresolved. Good job here!

This one reminds me of my own poem "It's A Beautiful Dawn". In life we always meet this kind of stone thrower, who hurled angry words and lies at us and they try to tie these words to us and weigh us down emotionally.

The best is to untie the stones from yourself and come up onto the top level above the stone throwers and make them small. You are big and the world still needs you!!!
