Getting older can be a bummer, but is sure beats the alternative!!
Cake and candles
Presents with bows
And a birthday clown
With a big red nose!
Oh how I loved
when every year
A celebration when
that day was here
“How old are you today?”
I was asked
And with glee
I answered “THREE!”
When I was a child
I would count the days
Waiting in anticipation
Of my birthday
When I was a teen
I thought I was cool
But I have to tell you
Birthdays still ruled!
When I was twenty-one
I remember thinking
“FINALLY! I am an adult!”
When I turned thirty
I was quite depressed
I said, “It’s all downhill
From here, I guess!”
When I turned forty
I did not celebrate
With a forced grin,
My daughter said,
“Mom you look great!”
To which I replied,
“Watch it Missy,
Getting old is
NOT for sissies!”
So I stopped celebrating
The day of my birth
No ribbons no balloons
Not for me, I am no buffoon!
But then I slowly
Started losing loved ones
One by one they were gone
So today is my birthday
And I am not sad
Have to tell you
I don’t look to bad
So let listen up
And let me be
The first to say
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!
