I wrote a poem not too long ago called Like Father,Like Never. It is a poem about me not becoming the type of person that my father truly was and still is.Ever since I was 16 years old,I discovered the type of person that my father is.I said to myself that I will never grow up to be anything like him.Someone who is a cold-hearted,mean-spirited,conceited,controlling,self-righteous,judgemental,inconsiderate,insensitive,nasty,bitter,manipulative basterd. He thinks he's above the law and thinks that the rules doesn't apply to him.As much as I respect and appreciate what he has done and sacrifice for me and my family,I will never respect his ways. Its hard for people to love someone who has so many bad characteristics. This song describes how I feel about my father and what he will get when the time is right. This is one of the most powerful pieces I've ever written here at the den.I felt a little bit better when I wrote it,but I can honestly say that I would feel a trillion times better if I expose him and tell him exactly how I feel. The best part about writing a poem or a song is the fact that you can express whatever you want that you would not normally would say in front of a person due to the reactions, etc.I love my dad,I love my father, but I hate who he is as a person. He can be as bitter and nasty towards me when he wants to,but I will still have a smile on my face and maintain my beautiful spirit

My rage is a gun
My words are the bullets
My mouth is the trigger
I'm black fill with amunition
When you least expected it,you will be shot down
Shot down for your infidelities
Shot down for your ignorance
Shot down for your negativity
You deserve to be expose for who you are
Ready,Aim,Fire
Ready,Aim,Fire
Ready,Aim,Fire,I'm the lethal weapon
You're the opposite of what this world is all about
Your ways are the target to assinate
Fully loaded,I will not hold my tongue
Armed with a sniper mentality, you will feel the wrath of it all
My voice is a thunderstorm of anger
Striking you with a lightening bolt of pain
It will be loud for you to hear and feel
This is your wakeup call
Ready,AIM,Fire
Ready,Aim,Fire
Ready,Aim,Fire,I'm the lethal weapon
All the years of holding my feelings back
It will finally come to the forefront
When I release what I have inside of me,
I will feel liberated like never before
I can breathe my own life by moving forward without you
Ready,Aim,Fire
Ready,Aim,Fire
Ready,Aim,Fire,I'm the lethal weapon

Your deisire to help others comes through so clearly in your other writings as your pain is so intensely felt in this one. It seems we humans pass on the pain as if it were a precious family heirloom. Be well Edwin as you heal the world one heart at a time.

Powerful work, Edwin. A thought provoking read...enjoyed immensly. Writing is such a beautiful tool, God given, so that we may heal our soul and rise above the evil of the day.

As I read this, I recalled the bible verse, Ephesians 6:4, "Provoke not your children to wrath." We hear so often to "Honor our parents" but parents have mandates as well, to not treat their children in ways that will let anger build in them. It's good you're addressing your feelings about your father. I think it's one of the journeys many men must take.

I am glad you have found a forum to release your pent up anger and pain, so many don't and live a life of being miserable because of it. I was fortunate in having two loving parents for althought my Dad was strict he was always fair.

Ice cold parents, indifferent ones, bad example ones, aren't the best for a child to lean when growing up, because that child will grow like a n emotional pretzel without beginning and without end.
What you need is a real friend, one that can reach your life keyboard and that will press that DELETE key that will obliterate everything bad in the past and leave only good memories for you to become a happy camper.

There is no need for anyone to follow in another's foot steps. My grandfather was in prison twice in two separate states. His son, my father was a Chief of Police in our town when I grew up. My father and grandfather spoke to one another, but father like son, never.

Edwin,

Thank you for sharing this painful work. Yes, it helpful to release pain through "song or verse." Now, your well-deserved healing can begin. Be encouraged with a new heart.

Peace and Renewal.

Edwin, for a moment I thought we had the same father. I know what you are talking about as we were so afraid growing up in our house, only for Mom, who by the way was an Angel I don't think any of us could have survived. I am glad you shared with us. Take care and none of us grew up to take on any of our father's ways.

Newfie Hugs, Rose
