I sat awake
In a chemical haze
Drinking cigarettes till 2 am
We traversed the green skyline at night
Watching the show through NVG's
The radio call came through from the General's Mess
We sent them Artillery
Air mail express
My enlisted companions guffawed real slow
The night sky thundered like electric buffalo
These shells do not sound like the ocean
Moments later the crippling blast shook us
Then the warm sub-nuclear waves of decision
Passed through us
Children removed from within us
