A Day in the Life of the 1%
Twin yachts swing at anchor in Spanish Bay,
just off the beach below golf course greens.
A private helicopter airlifts passengers from their decks
to the Concours d’Elegance pavilions at Pebble Beach.
Classic Porches, Bentleys and Ferraris caravan
down Highway One, clutter downtown Carmel.
Bistros, local restaurants are filled to overflowing.
The affluent dispense cash, consume caviar and champagne.
At the car auction, a cool million is the starting bid.
Movie stars make nice with the elite 1%.
The rest of us are barely hanging on, work multiple jobs,
always count pennies, live paycheck to paycheck.
The 99%, most of them, are hard-working poor with no assets stuck in the consumer matrix of the 1%. Since no one can, “live off the land,” any more, most of the hard-working have become wage slaves to the rich, corporate or not. Unless we want to be a South American plutocracy, we had better heed the meaning of this and get the word out that we won't tolerate the rich being elite just because they're greedy. They will have to be kind and generous as well.
