A cup of cocoa and a roaring fire
fill me with peace and warmth
as I sit by the window and watch
the sky fall in soft, swirling flakes.
A Turkey in the oven and pies cooling
while the Macy's Day parade is on TV
and I turn to look at my family with
thankfulness burning inside of me.
Mixed nuts in a bowl, scented candles,
simmering gravy and mashed potatoes
fill the senses with sights and sounds
that are all of Thanksgiving Day.
Soon the family will gather around the
table and give a prayer and the fight
for the wishbone will commense as people
ask for the white or dark part of the bird.
Afterwards we will all lie around
full and as stuffed as the Turkey
and tell ourselves we can't eat again
today but tomorrow....we shop.
Sounds wonderful. Like the Thanksgivings I used to have down on the farm with thirty-odd relatives every year. And watching the Macy's parade was the perfect way to let the turkey settle down. That and watching the Detroit Lions lose.
Beautiful memories. Don't forget all those left overs. The days following become those of turkey pie, soup, and sandwiches until we are so sick of turkey we pray not to see it until next Thanksgiving.( LOL )
