dedicated to all the women in my family who trip over nothing, walk into walls, fall up stairs, etc...
An egg shape of yellow
Splotched with a calico design
of red
and brown
and purple
It blooms unnoticed,
then jumps out at the eye
As if appearing so suddenly from nowhere
The mind yearns toward the spot
Trying to find some memory
of that trip
or fall
or stub
The pain unnoticed
Only because of the frequency
of walls appearing so suddenly from nowhere
Going over the past day's mishaps
"What was it I smashed into?"
a door?
or a wall?
or a table?
The object unnoticed
but leaves behind proof of contact
Fantastic discoloration appearing so suddenly from nowhere
