Quiet
Quiet awaits the darkness for us to fear
thoughts and feelings rise to the surface
from a far distant sphere.
Darkness captures the mind’s innermost depths;
consciousness touches the secret places best kept.
They rise to the surface, like bread on water,
trolling for dead bodies that have held together lives like solder.
Thoughts aroused from beneath the well-known;
unrehearsed melodies eerily play their own song.
Consciousness that has civilized us throughout the day,
undertows and spiraling currents of sub-consciousness, to them give way.
No matter how long you fight to cling tightly on,
your mind and energy are tugged downward till dawn.
Darkness gives root to the vine of bitter fruit;
rationale and logic lost in the rich soot.
No matter how long our mind fights to linger,
the stronger and greater depths of sleep they do bring here.
Quiet now, as the winds of sleep surround me,
the essence of rest masquerades as a quandary.
Quiet and peaceful finally restlessness gives into,
alpha to beta until morning dawns bring us to.
Now the depths of the quietest browsing,
bring greater awareness to the new day’s arousing.
Quietly, slowly, thoughts of a new time come into play.
While last night’s restlessness springs forth in a new way.
Now as we experience new faces and acts,
adding to our collection of relics and facts;
ones that are secretly stored out of sight,
make their appearance on the edge of some other night.
Quiet now, is fleeting with the dawn’s early chatter.
We rise to new life from last night’s strife and clatter.
Eagerly and happy sing the birds and bees,
wisely we recognize how quickly light and goodness
can be brought to its knees.
Quiet now and you will hear,
singing and acting life out in good cheer.
For only the unknown buried brings fear,
while plodding on with diligence and duty
brings forth peace, happiness, guilt-free beauty to cheer.
A poetic accomplished task. "Quiet" has paid its due to ERATO and has
delivered a page of literary glow to enrich The American Fine Letters,
and to feed the hungry minds.
My gratitude and respect to the author of "Quiet".
In admiration,
