Appeared from bush
Behind school compound,
And staggard in,
Into classroom,
Clutching tattered school bag
Filled with insects bitten books,
Donated by benevolent neighbours,
And bewilderment filled classroom.
What do you want here?
Class teacher bellowed.
Bush boy stood still,
And stared at bewildered class,
And murmured,
"I want to learn".
"I want to learn,
To learn to read and write,
To teach the World,
To know benevolence".
"I want to learn,
To change society for better".
"I want to learn,
To be a writer".
More bewilderment
Filled classroom to brim,
And silent echoes
Of "I want to learn",
Shook foundations
Of school buildings,
And continues to shake
Foundations of evil.
