Sudden Summer Rain
(C) Bernard Briggs
Clouds crowded across the blue stage
Earnestly searching for the common cause
To receive our applause
The whippy trees breezed expectantly
As the cracked earth looked up
Waiting for its tears to fall
When it came, the rain grabbed our attention
Bouncing on the unimpressed
Soaking pores on the underdressed
Flowing into metal hollows
The sky patched the roads and paths
Dancing under wheel and heel
Later, under the clock of a stroking sun
The rain left the puddles
Hand in hand with the wind
What a pretty picture! Thank you. Liz
