On the road of life we don't all have roadies to share the adventure, just trekies to share the pain.
my feet are cracked and soiled from life’s road
dusty laden with rocks, it’s a million uphill miles
treacherous curves with no guard rails, life pales
when I was young I ran and skipped with vigor
now I stumble strain can’t hardly find a place
to pull over and rest from the killing pace
this journey is not a race it’s a one way trip
a slip or fall it could end it before it was to end
nothing around the next bend except eternity
and that’s too far for me to travel my feet are old
there’s no bold left in my legs just the ache of age
runnin out of time can’t find no reason no rhyme
stopped humin tunes the dust of June's left me dry
most times I can’t find no tears to let my cry
turning back ain’t no option you can’t be where
you’ve already been on life’s dusty old road
plod when the fun is all gone looking for that
one woman to share my love, then I’ll be done
Life, at times, can be just like that, as mentioned!

Such a meaningful poem, Jon. Your theme applies to all of us at some point in time. I consider myself in good physical shape but I have noticed over the past while that my bike ride around the mountain and back up here is not nearly as easily accomplished as it was not so long ago. I was trying to figure out what the lament was all about because I know that at one time you drove NASCAR level race cars around the track at speeds that most never experience. A good memory for old age.
But then, I read the last line and realized that it wasn't about the long hard road of life, but the inability to find and keep a loving companion at the end and time was running out to find one.
"Can't find no reason no rhyme," yet the rhymes seem to work well enough in this poem. An interesting on the reality of the aging process. Nice work. John

THAT my friend says it all. The muscles in my arms and legs were somewhat my pride and joy. They are gone, for the most part. I never thought I would live to be this old, and not sure I want to go on sometimes. Eh, still I turn seventy-seven next month, and I'm still here, able to do for myself, so as far as that goes I'm ready for the next ten years.
