Thoughts and memories of a dear friend I have not seen or heard from in years.
though elderly and time tested
I am your junior in age and acumen
we shared moments vested
by chance and exposure; not will
many of our perspectives congruent
in expressive attributes we are diverse
unique though not by a universe
in resolutions we are surely kinsmen
as I scribe these lines I wonder
where does your pen now reside?
are your thoughts freely flowing
from beyond alpha centaury?
years have passed
since we last shared life
face to face, friends
dressed in our aged bodies
the lines in our faces
telling of the laughter, tears
dreams experiences in decades
more than the words in our tales
woe was also prevalent
evidenced by furrowed brows
the down turned corners of our
mouths truth pain cannot be hidden
I recall stories of beaches poems
war and business; loves
and family always dominant
what we bequeath living in heirs
summer at the shore for lunch
a photo or two, me and you
then your loss and grief following
we lost touch and I still wonder
are you here or in the past
I do not remember Gene here on AD, but apparently he did post here. It's always good when I see you post, because your absence is missed as well. It's too bad you didn't write this beautiful tribute to Gene while he could still read it.
I just heard of my uncle Bruce's death, the last time I talked to him on the phone a year ago to visit with him on a road trip I planned that fell through for lack of a caregiver/driver. He so wanted to see me again. Was despondent over his wife's death two years ago, and never quite recovered.
Jon, Gene did not live to far from me in Atlantic County NJ and I think, as I have not heard anything for a few years that he might have passed. I always loved his beach poems as there we had more than a passing interest for same...-e-
