Haunted

It was one of those moments

when my mind wanders

towards

what was

and the last day

of your life. 

Those moments

if we would have known

would have not been wasted

with idle conversations

about the weather.

It should have been endearing moments

where each breath exhaled bliss

like the birth of life.

Sitting in your favorite chair I fold

my yellow laced handkerchief 

tattered and fraile 

along with the memories of you

and I tuck it away neatly

for those unexpected

moments

least expect it.
