How can it be Labor day

I can’t believe it is so.

How fast time went rushing by

Where did the summer go?

I just brought out patio tables and chairs

And covered lawn patches with seed.

Gassed the mower and put it to work

And pulled the first dandelion weed.

I cleaned the pool and bought chlorine

And greeted my kids and their crew.

But gosh in just a blink of the eye

Our glorious summer bid adieu

I remember when summer was forever

Each day had a life of its own.

Now each summer month passes like an hour

And flees like our words on a phone.
