Dare I step aside or merely walk the brazen path? I know not, either way, what tide it brings. Perhaps I've not the knowledge, nor the will to knowledge, To fear, embrace, or understand these things.
Think of me a prince, or a humble, lowly jester. Yet make me free to step my lonely dance. I'll sing to you my song, and I'll carry you along, To revel in my maddening circumstance.
Do not dare to tease me, nor falsely try to please me, Nor steal my mask of quiet reverie. Whenever I pretend, or whatever I defend, I mourn no less for all I'll never see.
I find comfort in what's right, or shame in all that's wrong, I raise my voice and take a mighty stand. I know too well your name, played too long your foolish game, So step aside or grasp my outstretched hand.
Though my dreams are but a blur, a soft, lonely whisper, I cherish individuality. I break the chains of sorrow, and build for tomorrow, Renew my soul, my one reality.
Please question not the reason, but merely the response, When a hopeful man refuses to hide. Yea, the magic in my light is neither wrong nor right. I choose to be myself, not step aside.

For me, the first five verses set up the sixth. A work that might fill volumes, yet condensed to 24 lines that lose nothing. If you have looked at most poems on A/D, you know that the majority of us are mentally handicapped and limited to one meter, one rhyme scheme. What a difference to wander among your poems. In this one, I hear something of the old classical masters.
