When we lose our willingness to explore and settle for keeping our feet on the ground, those problems you mention will become worse. It is only through imagination and vision like Galileo who turned the Catholic Church upside down by declaring that the Earth was not the center of the universe and Arthur C Clarke who proposed the space elevator and stationary satellites that we now depend upon for so much communication and life-saving like never before. Those stationary satellites allow us to reveal the very problems you wrote about and solve them more quickly.
A space elevator would do away with rockets (not jet airplanes) that cost a tremendous amount to lift a pound to orbit (not to the moon).
