he went, he went faster
than I thought he would,
barreling after my husband,
the kids shouting, don't,
don't, and I swung the theater door open, I shouted too, don't do it,
Jack!
and he stopped, his fist shaking
the air like thunder, and we ran after
him, hoping to stop
a fight.
and my husband looked
in his SUV, like maybe
he had guns, knives,
grenades, anything
he might use, and he
pulled out a large book,
and tapped his head,
like he was smarter than Jack,
and when Jack got closer
(before we could get there),
he threw the Bible at Jack
and laughed, the pages
fluttering like a downed
Mallard duck.
